Asteria
The Asteria side table is a functional sculpture that combines fiber optic lighting with brass and clear acrylic.
Ideation
The concept of integrating fiber optic lighting into furniture was inspired by my previous smaller scale work with the unique material. While my initial concepts were similar to the rectilinear forms of my previous piece, I quickly realized how the design must be informed by the organic gestural forms that the fibers create.
Early prototyping

Along with fabricating the brass and acrylic pieces, I am also 3D printing components and communicating specs to outside fabricators.
